Xbox Controller LB/RB Bumper Not Working: Repair Guide
Fix bumpers that don't click, double-click, or feel mushy.
Confirm the fault
Open our Xbox Controller Test and press LB and RB. If a press doesn't register every time, the bumper mechanism is failing.
Why bumpers fail
The bumper is a plastic bar that presses two small tact switches. The bar cracks near the middle, or the switch underneath wears out.
Replace the bumper bar
A new bumper bar costs a few dollars. Opening the controller requires a T8 security Torx screwdriver. The bar clips in without soldering.
Replace the tact switch
If the bar is intact, the switch on the board is worn. Replacing it requires soldering, but the part costs cents.
