PS5 Controller Trigger (R2/L2) Not Working: Fixes

Fix adaptive triggers on a DualSense that feel stuck, loose, or stop responding.

Test the triggers first

Open our PS5 Controller Test and press L2/R2 slowly. The trigger bars should fill smoothly from 0 to 100%. If the value jumps or sticks, the trigger mechanism has a problem.

Check the adaptive trigger setting

Some games use adaptive triggers that add resistance. If a trigger feels stuck in one game only, disable adaptive triggers in that game's settings or in PS5 Settings → Accessories → Controllers.

Broken spring

The DualSense adaptive trigger uses a small spring and gear. Heavy use can snap the spring, leaving the trigger loose. This requires opening the controller and replacing the trigger assembly.

Clean around the trigger

Dust and grime around the trigger hinge can cause sticking. Use compressed air and a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol around the trigger gap.
