DS4Windows vs Steam Input: Which Should You Use?
Pick the right tool for using a PlayStation controller on PC.
What they do
Both tools translate PlayStation controller input into XInput, the format most PC games expect from Xbox controllers.
Steam Input
Built into Steam, no install needed. Enable PlayStation Configuration Support in Steam → Settings → Controller. Best if you play mostly through Steam.
DS4Windows
A standalone app that works system-wide, including non-Steam games and emulators. Offers deeper customization: macros, touchpad mapping, light bar control.
Avoid double input
Never run both at once — games will see two controllers and inputs will duplicate. Hide the real controller with HidHide if needed.
